Leeds United: Paul Robinson against potential Adam Forshaw exit

Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson has insisted that Leeds United should not sell Adam Forshaw in January.

The experienced midfielder has been at Elland Road since 2018, but has been restricted to just 47 Premier League minutes this season.

It would seem he has been deemed surplus to requirements by Jesse Marsch, and according to Football Insider, Leeds will listen to offers for the 31-year-old when the market reopens.

The same outlet suggests that a number of Championship clubs are interested in taking Forshaw off the Whites’ hands, but Robinson is totally against the idea.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, he said: “It’s important he gets himself fit for selection with Leeds and I’d love to see him given a chance at Leeds.

“This is going to be a long season where they’re battling to stay in the Premier League, so you need players like Adam Forshaw around the dressing room.

“You need leaders, you need experience and you need those types of characters in and around the squad.

“I wouldn’t even consider a loan move or anybody else taking him in January.

“I’d give him the opportunity to get fit, to prove himself, show he’s worth another contract and then make a decision when they sit down with him at the end of the season.

“He proved last season that he’s fantastic, and to have that type of player in your ranks will be invaluable for Leeds.

“At the moment, he’s too valuable [not] to have around as a character because it’s going to be a long, hard season for Leeds.”

TIF Thoughts on Forshaw and Leeds…

This potential U-turn may come as a big shock as Forshaw is allegedly on the ‘chopping block’ with Championship clubs lining up to land him in the January transfer window.

The 5ft 9in dynamo has made over 300 senior appearances at various clubs, so it is clear he could provide plenty of experience.

He was handed a key role in Leeds’ engine room last season as he made 17 league starts, but the arrivals of Marc Roca and Tyler Adams have seemingly left the £28k-per-week workhorse out of favour.

He hasn’t been in the matchday squad since the start of September, and despite the value he may have in being around the dressing room as Robinson has suggested, it seems like Forshaw’s days at Thorp Arch are numbered.

Adam Forshaw, Joe Robles and Liam Cooper are by all reports, good in the dressing room, however we need players that are good on the pitch, not just the dressing room. How much difficulty is involved in getting dressed anyway? How long before Llorente and Koch are good in the dressing room?
