Fabrizio Romano has stated on his YouTube channel that he expects both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita to leave Liverpool this summer.

Both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita’s contracts with the Reds end this summer, meaning they’ll be free agents.

The duo have simply failed to impress at Anfield. Oxlade-Chamberlain had a history of numerous injuries and suffered many whilst at Liverpool.

As for Keita, he suffered a large number of injuries too. His were mostly more short-term than his teammate, but the tally is a lot higher than the Englishman’s.

Romano stated that Jurgen Klopp is in the hunt for a midfielder. So, letting go of the two midfielders will likely open up space for new recruits.

He said: “They want to sign midfielders, it could be more than one because from what I’m told Oxlade-Chamberlain will leave as a free agent at the end of the season. There are very good chances also for Naby Keita to leave as free agent from what I’m told it’s a serious possibility.”

TIF’s view on Romano’s comments…

We believe that Liverpool made the right decision when it came to the decision on both players. Oxlade-Chamberlain cost the Reds £35 million from Arsenal.

As for Keita, fans will be especially disappointed with his stint on Merseyside. He was a club-record signing at the time, costing £48 million from RB Leipzig.

Both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita’s careers have seen their appearances diminish over time. Showcasing that they’ve not delivered what many Liverpool fans would’ve expected.

Now the focus for Klopp’s side will be strengthening in the midfield area. A number of their players in that position are on the older side. Perhaps the club will look to bring in some younger stars in the centre of the park.

Liverpool currently sit just outside the top four. They’ll be looking to rectify that and bring in some new midfielders, which could help set the club up nicely for the future.
