Liverpool are expected to spend in the upcoming January transfer window despite the recent developments surrounding owners FSG.

This has been suggested by reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking about the Anfield side on the House of Champions YouTube channel.

It has been a tricky 2022/23 campaign so far for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who find themselves slumped down in eighth spot of the Premier League table, but there has been a major development this week.

On Monday, it was reported the Reds were now up for sale, with FSG starting the valuation process with two banks as they look to listen to offers.

And although it’s believed FSG are open to passing the club onto new owners, Romano believes this will not prevent them from spending in the January window.

He said: “I’m told that they have the same plans to go for important players if they have the opportunity – if not, to wait. This is Liverpool’s approach.

“But I see them looking at the market in January because they have too many injuries. They are already exploring some possibilities on the market.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

We think this may be taken with a pinch of salt by some Liverpool fans given the Reds had a relatively quiet summer window – Darwin Nunez aside.

Do you expect Liverpool to spend in January?

No

However, with the owners believed to be looking to sell, it should be in their own interests to improve the squad, with Klopp’s men clearly well off the pace.

Obviously, there is still a long way to go this season, but there is already a seven-point gap to the Champions League spots, and when it comes to selling the club, not being in the Champions League could prove a blow to the proposed buyer’s valuation.
