Leeds United want to bring in a proven striker as they fight for survival in the Premier League.

That’s according to journalist Dean Jones who spoke to This Is Futbol about the type of striker Jesse Marsch wants to bring to Elland Road.

After surviving by the skin of their teeth last season, Leeds once again find themselves just three points off the bottom three.

One area they need to address in January is in the striker department. They’ll need back up for Patrick Bamford for when he’s not available if they’re to stay up.

Jones stated that is an area the club are looking at. As far as names are concerned, none have come up as of yet.

“They want someone that’s going to be proven because it’s just going to give them that extra confidence that this side needs that when Bamford is not there, there’s someone there that is clinical and is definitely capable of converting chances that that are being set up.

“I haven’t got names yet on exactly who Leeds want. But it’s undoubtedly something that they’re working on.”

TIF’s view on Jones’ comments

We believe that Leeds are right to look at more options. They’ve scored 19 goals this season, which puts them right in the middle of the pack. Rodrigo has the most for the Lilywhites with 7 in the league this season.

So it’s clear they need more players who can score goals. Only Rodrigo, Crysencio Summerville and Luis Sinisterra have more than one goal for Marsch’s side this season.

Bringing in a proven striker who can get on the end to the chances they make is essential. But, there’s a long way to go. Adding a new forward could help shoot Leeds up the table, survival is the goal, but a push for top ten would make it an excellent campaign for the Lilywhites.
