Journalist Joe Donnohue has hinted at some early Leeds United team news after watching the club’s Under-21s.

Leeds’ U21s recorded a very impressive win on Monday afternoon, although the result wasn’t necessarily what took all of the headlines, as the team news took centre stage.

Several regulars within the youth setup were either not included in the squad, or like Sonny Perkins, handed cameo appearances near the end of the game ahead of the Whites’ match in the Carabao Cup against Wolves.

Donnohue hinted that some of the club’s younger players could now well be in line for spots on the bench on Wednesday night at Molineux if this team news is anything to go by.

He tweeted: “Mateo Joseph, Hjelde, Gnonto, Archie Gray & Gelhardt all stopped by to watch #LUFC U21s y’day. Ordinarily, many would’ve been playing. Gyabi also left out; Perkins only got 10 mins. None appeared to be carrying injuries. Carabao Cup at Wolves tomorrow.”

Will Leeds beat Wolves?

TIF Thoughts on this potential team news hint…

Given Leeds are still not in a great league position and will almost certainly be looking over their shoulder towards the relegation zone sitting just three points above the bottom three, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Marsch make wholesale changes against Wolves.

It will be a good chance for the American to see where the younger players are in terms of their development and how they stack up against Premier League opposition – especially Wilfried Gnonto, who has impressed when coming off the bench in recent games.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

Someone else who could relish a chance to impress in the first team is Perkins, who was signed over the summer but is yet to even make the bench for the first team. Under-21 football appears too easy for the in-form striker, having scored seven goals in just eight starts thus far, so Marsch may be tempted to give him a runout.
