Journalist Beren Cross has claimed that Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk is ‘surely set for a massive pay hike’ when offered a new contract.

As per Transfermarkt, the 23-year-old will see his contract expire in the summer of 2024. With that in mind, the Whites will have to make a big decision on his future soon.

Indeed, if they want to cash in on Struijk, they will have to sell him this winter or in the summer if they want to get the best price. Of course, though, that seems unlikely as he has been a key player this season.

Instead, Leeds are probably pretty keen to tie him down to a new contract, and Cross has urged the club to do just that, while also tipping him to land a big pay rise.

Indeed, in a recent article for LeedsLive, Cross explained: “Still only 23 and now being named in provisional Netherlands squads, Struijk is surely set for a massive pay hike from United, and sooner rather than later.

He concluded that the Dutchman was “an asset Leeds have to protect”.

TIF Thoughts on Pascal Struijk and Leeds…

The Premier League club have certainly been reliant on Struijk’s best talents this season. Indeed, despite traditionally being a centre-back, the defender has had to line up as the first-choice left-back of late – playing 13 league games in that position so far this term.

Not only does that versatility make him a great asset for the Whites, but the defender is also a potential future international star, having been named in a provisional Netherlands squad earlier this year – although he did not make the World Cup team.

Clearly, the 23-year-old is already a key player and could develop into an even more important part of Jesse Marsch’s plans. With that in mind, rival clubs could be monitoring his contractual situation carefully in the coming months, so it may be best to sort a new deal out soon.
