Presenter Conor McGilligan has warned that Leeds United may find it hard to hold on to Tyler Adams in the summer amid his fine form.

During the last transfer window, the midfielder joined the Premier League club from RB Leipzig for a fee reported to be in the region of £20m.

Since then, he has made himself a key part of Jesse Marsch’s Leeds team. On top of that, he has starred for the United States at the World Cup in Qatar with his performances reportedly catching the attention of Inter.

Indeed, he has played every minute as captain for his nation, helping them qualify for the knockout stages of the competition after finishing second in Group B behind England.

Amid his impressive season, while speaking about Adams on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan has suggested that plenty of clubs will be keen on landing the American in future transfer windows.

He said: “He’s on a five-year contract, whatever it is at Leeds.

“We’re going to actually do well to keep hold of this guy again in the summer, because there’s going to be suitors as for him, because [of] what he’s doing at the minute.”

Off the pitch, Adams has also been praised for how he handled a tricky press conference question relating to political issues in America recently. Indeed, that led journalist James Marshment to suggest he could even be a future Leeds captain.

He said: “A lion on the pitch for both Leeds and #USMNT and a great speaker and role model off it. Undoubtedly, the next captain of #LUFC right here.”

He is certainly proving he can handle that duty on the global stage. For instance, after their vital 1-0 win over Iran that secured qualification, NBC Sports handed him an 8/10 player rating for his display and wrote: “He rarely has bad games in a USMNT shirt, and there’s a reason he has the captain’s armband when most teams would’ve automatically allocated it to Pulisic.”

Taking it all into account, it’s certainly hard not to look at Adams and feel as though some top Premier League clubs – and perhaps other teams from across Europe – could be keen on signing him in the near future.
