Presenter Conor McGilligan claimed that rumoured Leeds United winter transfer target Jesus Vasquez is ‘not’ a Jesse Marsch player.

With Premier League football on a break for the World Cup, the Whites will not return to action until late December – by which time the January transfer market will soon be upon us.

With that in mind, it’s no shock to hear a few new rumours emerge linking Leeds with some exciting deals. For instance, Spanish newspaper AS report that left-back Vasquez is on the club’s radar.

However, while speaking about the 19-year-old defender on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan asserted that this isn’t the sort of transfer Marsch would have had much of a say in.

He said (03:48): “We’ve already heard rumours today about Leeds apparently speaking to this guy called Jesus Vasquez who’s a Valencia left back 19 years.

“This is not a Jesse Marsch player, is it?”

TIF Thoughts on Jesus Vasquez and Leeds United…

The reason McGilligan may claim that Vasquez isn’t the sort of player his manager would have personally requested is perhaps because the Valencia defender is Spanish and the club’s Spanish director of football Victor Orta is said to be driving the deal – having held secret talks with representatives of La Liga club.

With that connection being so apparent, it would make sense if this was indeed a transfer made by the director of football acting on his own volition as opposed to working directly with Marsch on a plan.

Of course, this is how many modern clubs act these days with managers coming and going so frequently, it does make sense for a director of football to decide what players should be signed, instead of thinking short term.

Still, it will be interesting to see if Vasquez does arrive and how Marsch will integrate him into his team if given the chance.
