Leeds United: James Marshment claims Whites may have ‘dodged a bullet’ with Charles De Ketelaere

|

Journalist James Marshment has claimed that Leeds United ‘may have dodged a bullet’ by not signing Charles De Ketelaere.

Over the summer, the Whites looked to be desperate to land the Belgian and even submitted a bid rumoured to be as much as £33.5m. However, he rejected the move.

Indeed, Club Brugge ultimately accepted a lower offer from Milan, with De Ketelaere evidently preferring a move to the Serie A champions instead.

Despite that transfer disappointment, it sounds as though it may well have been a good thing for Leeds that the deal didn’t get across the line. Indeed, Marshment feels the midfielder has been ‘a major disappointment’ in Milan so far.

The journalist took to Twitter to explain: “Charles De Ketelaere has proven a major disappointment for Milan with zero goals and just one assist in 15 appearances so far. It seems Leeds may have dodged a bullet with a legendary Italian coach describing CdK as ‘looking lost’ and ‘scared to play’.

TIF Thoughts on Charles De Ketelaere and Leeds…

In a recent interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, legendary Italian manager Arrigo Sacchi seemed to be pretty underwhelmed by the form of De Ketelaere, slamming his recent displays.

In fairness, the Belgian has averaged a lowly 6.33 SofaScore rating in the Champions League so far, and prior to their final group clash, he was yet to score or claim an assist in the competition for Milan.

He hasn’t fared much better in Serie A either, with just one assist and zero goals in 11 games and has consequently been trusted to start on only five occasions (via Transfermarkt).

Taking it all into account, it’s not hard to see why De Ketelaere has come in for some heavy criticism, so Leeds may well be glad that this is one deal they didn’t go ahead with.
