Presenter Conor McGilligan claimed that rumoured Leeds United winter transfer target Cody Gakpo has no chance of joining the club.

Over the summer, it was pretty clear that the Whites were hoping to bring the Dutchman to the Premier League but they failed to finalise any move despite him nearly boarding a plane to fly to England.

Despite that, the club have remained linked with Gakpo to this date. All the while, he has caught the eye at the World Cup by scoring for the Netherlands against Senegal.

Not that long ago, it was reported that the club will push again for the striker in January but all this talk of a possible move to Leeds has been rubbished by McGilligan.

While talking One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan literally laughed off the rumours as he said He said (04:26): “We saw Gakpo score yesterday. Apparently [Andrea] Radrizzani, in the summer, was talking about going back in and Cody Gakpo in the January window (laughs).

“But let’s see if we do, he? Let’s see if we go in for Gakpo, because he is not coming to Leeds United. He’s better than Leeds United.

“So, yeah, sorry for all the Leeds fans who maybe think that we are better than we are. But a top player like that is not coming to Leeds.”

TIF Thoughts on Cody Gakpo and Leeds United…

Domestically, Gakpo has had an incredible season with PSV. Indeed, the forward has scored 13 times and provided 17 assists in 24 games across all competitions.

With that fine form in mind, he had probably already played himself out of contention for a Leeds transfer but his valuation will be even higher now he has scored at the World Cup.

All in all, it’s easy to see why Leeds are so keen on the 23-year-old but it does seem as if any move is now completely off the table as he looks set to join a club more likely to play in the Champions League than get caught in a relegation battle.

As far as I can see it’s only McGilligan that is still banging on about Gakpo. Everybody else realises he won’t be coming to Leeds. This guy will say anything to get airtime
