Presenter Conor McGilligan has slammed Leeds United for the way they were set up tactically at one particular moment during their recent defeat.
Over the weekend, the Whites took part in a thrilling Premier League encounter away from home, but were unable to come away with any points, losing 4-3 on the day.
Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur managed to turn the game around in the latter stages after Jesse Marsch’s men had led on three occasions.
After the game, a screenshot from the game emerged showing all Leeds United players inside their half with most close in proximity, leaving a huge gap on the opposite flank where Spurs’ Matt Doherty was stood alone in a dangerous area.
Reacting to the picture, McGilligan wrote on Twitter: “Gives me anxiety just looking at this.”
TIF Thoughts on Leeds United…
You’ve got to assume this is a deliberate tactic from Marsch, presumably trying to force a turnover by closing down as much as possible before Spurs have the chance to switch the play and exploit the open space.
Evidently, though, McGilligan fears that the players don’t have the quality to do this. Seeing as Leeds shipped four goals in the game, it is probably fair to ask questions about the defensive tactics deployed on the day.
Seeing as the Whites were involved in another 4-3 thriller just the weekend before – ending up on the winning side as they beat Bournemouth – Marsch could do with his team being a little tighter at the back.
It will certainly be interesting to see if he changes any tactical plans when the players return after the World Cup.
