Journalist Phil Hay has praised Leeds United youngster Sonny Perkins during his recent appearance in the cup for the senior side.

In their midweek Carabao Cup fixture, the Whites took on Wolves away from home with the intention of qualifying beyond the third round of the competition.

Manaer Jesse Marsch named an inexperienced team though and actually handed out four Leeds United players their debuts. Mateo Joseph, Darko Gyabi and Joel Robles were those men, while Perkins was also making his first appearance.

And it seems as though the teenager impressed Hay. Indeed, the journalist took to Twitter to say: “Leeds with a strong start, Wolves with the stronger finish but it’s a young Leeds team and they’ve really done fine so far. Perkins looks at ease, Joseph busy on the left.”

TIF thoughts on Sonny Perkins and Leeds United…

Perkins only arrived at Leeds in the summer, moving from Premier League rivals West Ham United – where he had actually earned plenty of praise too; even being labelled as ‘on the same level as Declan Rice’.

Seeing as the 18-year-old has now already made his senior debut at his new club, it’s easy to see why there is plenty of excitement. To be fair, he’s been proving his quality at the youth level too for the Whites.

Indeed, already this season he has seven goals in nine Premier League 2 outings, spread across just 654 minutes (via Transfermarkt). Evidently, Perkins is one to keep an eye on for the future, and Hay certainly seems to have been impressed from the youngster’s first showing.
