Leeds United right-back Luke Ayling is no longer good enough to be playing Premier League football, according to Conor McGilligan.

The presenter has been speaking on the latest video on the One Leeds Fan Channel following a recent update from reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

It has been suggested Cody Drameh could be headed for the exit door in West Yorkshire, with a number of big clubs across Europe showing an interest in the young right-back.

First up, which of these World Cup debutants could Leeds go back in for this winter?

However, McGilligan feels it would be a massive mistake to allow Drameh to leave when Ayling is ahead of the youngster in the pecking order at Elland Road.

Ayling has made seven appearances in the league under Jesse Marsch already this season, but this is seemingly seven appearances too many in McGilligan’s mind.

He said: “I think he’d [Ayling] be struggling to get in a lot of Championship starting XIs right now. Maybe bottom-half Championship, but absolutely no chance, top 12.

“But yet, he’s coming on for Leeds United to try and secure the game, as we saw at the weekend. Now, this is no disparaging comment on Luke Ayling. It’s just got to a point now where he’s not good enough. There are several Leeds players who, for me, are not good enough.

“Luke Ayling is not fit for Premier League football, for me.”

TIF Thoughts on McGilligan’s comments…

In Ayling’s 71 appearances in the Premier League, it has to be said his numbers are not that impressive, with just two goals and three assists to show from almost 6,000 minutes of football (via Transfermarkt).

Is Ayling good enough for the Premier League?

Yes

No

No

Ayling has not been a regular starter by any means this season, with the large majority of his appearances coming from the bench in Rasmus Kristensen’s place.

However, he has already played more than double the Premier League minutes than Drameh has this season, despite starting the season on the injury table.

What is perhaps just as damning is that in the opening games when Ayling was injured, Drameh did not come off the bench for Kristensen, but in Drameh’s only appearance, he was replaced by Ayling later in the game.

This Conor bloke always comes across that he is a Leeds fan. But I really wonder. He does nothing but slate the team, the players and the manager at every opportunity. I have watched his podcasts and I can tell you they just sap everything from you. I have never known such a whinging “so called fan” in my whole life
