Phil Hay has now claimed that Patrick Bamford won’t feature for Leeds United in the Carabao Cup tomorrow evening.
The Leeds striker has had a horrid time of things over the last 12-18 months having suffered countless injuries, while he has only managed to start 11 league games since the beginning of the last campaign.
Bamford’s luck appears to have got no better, with the striker missing out at the weekend due to an injury he picked up in training, with Hay claiming it was sustained while he was taking a penalty.
Due to that freak injury, Hay has now claimed on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show that Bamford will be absent against Wolves and likely until after the World Cup.
He said: “You’ll know that Bamford was missing again at the weekend. Marsch said he’d injured himself taking a penalty at Thorp Arch on Friday [in] basically the last kick of training, and it is genuinely one thing after another with Bamford.
“Given that he’ll now miss the League Cup game against Wolves, and I would think, Spurs away as well – it was a seven-day injury they were talking about but it might be a challenge for him to be fit for the weekend – he will have gone, by the time the season resumes, a full calendar year without scoring.”
Is Bamford good enough for Leeds?
Yes!
No!
TIF Thoughts on Bamford…
It will be very difficult for Marsch and Bamford to have to constantly deal with these injury setbacks, but it looks like he may never recover and become the Premier League-calibre striker he hinted at being under Marcelo Bielsa.
Bamford, who joined for around £10m, has indeed showcased his talent at this level during the 2020/21 season when he netted 17 goals and earned an England call-up off the back of that form, but he appears to have lost that cutting edge now, having missed the second-most big chances in the league despite starting just four games.
Therefore, Marsch and Leeds have to surely be looking at signing a new striker in January, even if just on loan, and look to sign a big-name striker in the summer, as they can’t keep going on with Bamford and never knowing when he’s next going to break down.
