Phil Hay believes that Leeds United have to do everything they can to build a successful team around midfield summer signing Tyler Adams.
Leeds picked up a memorable and hugely important three points on Saturday evening as they won 2-1 at Anfield, and someone who’s come in for high praise is summer signing Adams – who earned a 9/10 rating from the Daily Mail’s Ian Whittell.
The American midfielder was very well-known to Jesse Marsch prior to joining the club due to their American connection, while the midfielder played under Marsch during their time together at New York Red Bulls and RB Leipzig.
Hay has now stated his belief on The Phil Hay Show that Leeds and Marsch have to build their entire team around the American international.
He said: “I think in this system, there are players that the team have got to be built around, and he is definitely one of them. He’s got to stay fit and he’s going to be pivotal for Marsch in the weeks and months to come.”

TIF Thoughts on Tyler Adams…
It’s no surprise that Hay is so keen for Marsch to make Adams their most important player given he ranks second for progressive passes and also top for tackles and touches within the Leeds side this season.
If Marsch is able to pick up more results like the one away to Liverpool and head into the World Cup riding a big wave of confidence, he could improve his side once again in January, leaving no reason why they can’t have a strong second half of the campaign.
Adams has to be at the centre of that, though given his experience for club and country, as well as in the Champions League, he’s potentially playing at a level below himself at the moment given Leeds may be set for a relegation battle, so the club must ensure they progress to keep him happy or risk losing him, much like they did Kalvin Phillips.
