Phil Hay believes that Crysencio Summerville’s recent form for Leeds United has proved Jesse Marsch wrong about the Leeds United winger.
The Dutch winger has enjoyed a fabulous breakout season thus far for Leeds as he’s become the match-winner they have desperately craved in games.
Summerville’s late goals against Fulham, Liverpool and Bournemouth in recent weeks appeared to have helped turn the Whites’ season around before they suffered a setback against Tottenham Hotspur despite the youngster again getting on the scoresheet.
The 21-year-old was keen on leaving the club on loan in January under former manager Marcelo Bielsa, but instead stuck around and appears to have now established himself as a first-team regular under Marsch, although the American didn’t always have full belief in the winger, according to Hay.
Speaking on The Phil Hay Show, Hay has revealed Marsch didn’t think Summerville was capable of scoring in every game he played, but has been doing just that over the past few weeks.

He said: “Summerville is quite interesting, actually, because Marsch said – and I totally understood why he said this, and it was hard to disagree at the time – he said to us after Summerville’s goal at Anfield, which was two in two for him, he’s not going to score every game, he isn’t a player who’s likely to do that for us, but suddenly he is.”

While Marsch was probably right in what he said about Summerville – perhaps doing it to ensure pressure wasn’t heaped onto someone so young – it appears to have only spurred him on.
To go from a first-team outsider looking to leave in January to now perhaps one of the first names on the teamsheet based on current form is a great story for Summerville, and he could well save Leeds millions of pounds in January by not having to sign a goalscoring winger.
