Leeds United: Gnonto has been been the ‘catalyst’ for Summerville claims Beckford

|

Former Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford has claimed that Wilfried Gnonto has been the ‘catalyst’ for Crysencio Summerville’s form this season.

The Leeds winger has four goals to his name this season and at only 21 years old, he could be a real talent if he keeps up his fantastic form.

As for Gnonto, he’s a versatile player who can operate as either a second striker or as a winger on either side. He’s made three league appearances and already has an assist to his name.

Beckford identified the duo’s friendship as a key factor in Summerville’s success this season on the Official Leeds United Podcast on YouTube.

He said: “I’ve noticed a big difference with him [Summerville] since Willy Gnonto’s come on the scene, as well.

“They look brilliant together, they’ve got a friendship off the pitch alongside being on the pitch as well. Sometimes you just need that catalyst.”

TIF’s view on Beckford’s comments…

We believe that Gnonto has definitely had an impact on Summerville. In the last two fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth, the duo have played out wide. Gnonto on both occasions has came off the bench.

For a 21-year-old, to have four goals to your name already this season is very impressive. As for Gnonto, he already has seven caps for the Italian national side. On top of that, he has already scored for Italy since making his debut.

Furthermore, journalist Dean Jones has backed the two to play an important part in the second-half of the season for Leeds.

The Whites are currently two points off the bottom three in 15th place. However, if Summerville and Gnonto continue their hot streak of form, they could help Leeds climb up the table, possibly pushing for a potential top-10 position.

With time to rest due to the World Cup and the possibility of new signings in January. Jesse Marsch will hope his Leeds side can ensure Premier League safety, sooner rather than later.
