Ismaila Sarr was Senegal’s ‘standout’ star in their 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands in their World Cup opener. Leeds United were recently linked with the player over the summer.

90min.com writer, Joel Omotto gave the winger the highest rating of any Senegal player. However, it would be the Netherlands who would take all three points from the match thanks to a Cody Gakpo goal.

Sarr was linked with Leeds over the summer. With one report stating Watford and Leeds were ‘close’ to an agreement.

Omotto gave Sarr an ‘8/10’, for his performances against Louis van Gaal’s side. Highlighting the amount of chances he created, coming off the bench.

He stated, ‘Ismaila Sarr 8/10’.

‘Only a goal prevented him from having a perfect night but the Watford winger was the standout player in the Teranga Lions squad. Sarr was tasked with replacing Mane and did well, creating numerous chances which were either saved by the goalkeeper or missed by his teammates.’

TIF’s view on Omotto’s comments…

We believe that Leeds fans should be hoping that the club re-visit their interest in the Watford winger. Despite an underwhelming performance from the African nation, it’s clear Sarr made an impact.

He’s proven he can cause problems in the Premier League and would give Jesse Marsch more options out wide.

However, what could be an issue when it comes to signing the player is agreeing a deal. Last summer, Aston Villa had a fee agreed a fee for Sarr. However, it then broke down because Villa walked away from the deal.

So, if Leeds can get the player on side and join the club, it would be a great signing. An example of just how good Sarr is, was his performance against Liverpool in the 2019/20 Premier League season. The Senegal international netted twice and got an assist to help the Hornets beat the Reds 3-0.

With talent like that, some Leeds fans will hope they can get Sarr signed very soon. His recent performance in Senegal’s opening match shows, the boy has talent. For a winger the most eye-catching stat was his 14 duels won.
