Everton transfer target Ben Brereton Diaz has confirmed he won’t be joining a new club during the January transfer window.

The Toffees have previously been linked with a move for Brereton Diaz after being linked with him over the summer, and when January comes around, the Chilean international will be in the final six months of his contract and could’ve been available for a cut-price fee.

However, that won’t be the case, as the striker himself has confirmed he will be staying with Blackburn Rovers until at least the end of the season, meaning Everton and Lampard will now have to look elsewhere.

Brereton Diaz has currently netted 12 goals in the Championship season and is set on seeing out the rest of the campaign as he spoke to TalkSPORT.

He said: “Hopefully I’ll be there until the end of the season, we’re going to the Play-Offs and we’re trying to get promoted, that’s what we’re trying to do, we’ve all bought into that and all the players are working hard every day and it’s what we want as a club, for the supporters to get back to the top.”

Will Everton sign a new striker in January?

TIF Thoughts on interest in Brereton Diaz…

Those comments will come as a crushing blow for Everton as they don’t seem like throwaway remarks from the striker – he appeared genuinely committed to the cause and really wants to help get Blackburn back into the Premier League.

It’s very obvious that a new striker will be required in January as Dominic Calvert-Lewin simply can’t be relied upon too heavily as he isn’t able to stay fit having limped off against Leicester City on Sunday.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

Behind Calvert-Lewin is summer signing Neal Maupay, who certainly isn’t a prolific striker or someone that can guarantee double figures in front of goal, having only done so once in the Premier League during his career, so a new talisman will surely be near the top of the club’s shopping list in January.
