Everton’s interest in Udinese centre-back Rodrigo Becao has now gone quiet, with no talks ongoing over a potential deal.

This is what Fabrizio Romano has told CaughtOffside regarding the Brazilian in his latest column, with the January transfer window on the horizon.

Do you remember who Alex Iwobi was signed from?

Frank Lampard’s side go into the World Cup break slumped in a relegation battle as they sit just one point above the drop zone and four points from rock bottom.

A number of other Premier League sides have also been linked with potential swoops for the Udinese defender, however, Romano also shut down recent reports of interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Italian transfer guru claimed the Udinese defender was an option for Lampard’s side in the summer window, but it does not appear they are moving in on a potential deal in January as yet.

He said: “What I can tell you is that he was an option for Everton last summer, but it’s gone quiet now – there are no talks ongoing with Udinese.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

Everton – despite their weekend defeat – have made a respectable start to the 2022/23 campaign defensively with just 17 goals conceded, which has only been bettered by three other teams.

Do Everton need more defenders in January?

No

However, we do think there could still be room for improvement in Lampard’s defence, with further squad depth providing a potential boost in January.

The likes of Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate and Michael Keane all played a big role last season in which the Toffees struggled massively – and all are still squad players.

So if Becao does become a potential option in the new year, we will be interested to see if Lampard looks to continue making improvements to his defensive options.
