TalkSport host Darren Bent has tipped goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to leave Everton in the near future amid the club’s poor form.
With 45 caps for England over the past five years since making his debut in 2017, the 28-year-old has established himself as his country’s number-one option.
With that in mind, Pickford will have every chance to impress on the global stage as the Three Lions aim for glory in Qatar at the 2022 World Cup this winter.
If the Englishman does have a good tournament, he could draw the attention of some top Premier League clubs, and perhaps others across Europe, ahead of the January transfer window.
This seems to be Bent’s thinking. Indeed, when asked on the TalkSport about what England players could be on the move in the next window, the pundit touted the Everton goalkeeper as a likely candidate.
He explained (0:26): “There’s one that’s kind of… Certain situations would have to happen, and I think he’ll have to move on, and that’s Jordan Pickford.”
“I think the situation at Everton, it doesn’t look good, I’m not saying they are one of the favourites to go down, I think will survive.”
Do you think Jordan Pickford will still be at Everton by the start of next season?
TIF thoughts on Jordan Pickford and Everton…
Pickford is one of the first names on the team sheet for Frank Lampard at Everton, with only a brief injury preventing him from playing in every league game this term.
Even with the quality shot-stopper between the sticks, however, the Toffees have struggled for consistency. As a result, they will spend Christmas just one place and one point above the bottom three.
Pickford may not fancy the idea of a relegation fight in the second half of the season, especially not with Champions League club Tottenham Hotspur among those tipped to have an interest in the goalkeeper.
And so, taking it all into account, Bent’s suggestion doesn’t seem that outlandish. Perhaps an exit could be on the cards soon.
