Tony Scott has claimed on the All Together Now podcast that Amadou Onana would ’cause absolute riots’ if he played as a striker for Everton.

Onana has made quite the impact since arriving over the summer. He has played in every game, is currently top for tackles and ranks fourth when it comes to progressive passes in the Everton side, but there could be a new role for him in the near future.

This is because Scott thinks the Belgian midfielder could well do a job for the Toffees up front if they wish to keep launching crosses into the box – as they are still yet to score a header in the Premier League.

It says quite a lot about Everton’s attacking woes if Scott believes Onana could be the striker they are looking for.

He said: “What’s your alternative? Throwing balls in the box to Neal Maupay, where he’s not going to win a header, or Onana in the box, where he’s going to cause absolute riots? If I was a centre-back, I’d rather mark Maupay all day long than Onana, of course you would.”

Should Onana be played as a striker?

TIF Thoughts on Everton’s striker woes…

Considering Onana has only played as a striker throughout his career on one occasion (as per Transfermarkt), it would be a very bold move for Lampard to deploy him as the side’s focal point, and may well be seen as desperation.

However, if Everton are to continue putting crosses into the box with a 5ft 8in Maupay to aim for, they could do worse than play Salomon Rondon through the middle and use him as a target man instead.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

Given Onana was signed as a dominant midfielder over the summer, to then throw him into a brand new position with Everton struggling in the final third could do more harm to him than good, especially if it goes spectacularly wrong.
