Greg O’Keeffe admits he’s concerned by the form shown by Everton duo Demarai Gray and Anthony Gordon this season.

Everton lost their main attacking outlet from last season over the summer when Richarlison departed, and thus far, nobody appears to be good enough to step up and replace him, with their top scorer being Gordon with three goals.

Therefore, it’s no surprise to see them as one of the sides in joint-third when it comes to least goals scored in the Premier League, but it’s the creation of chances which is seemingly a bigger worry, with Gordon and Gray having managed to register just three goal-creating chances between them (FBref).

O’Keeffe highlighted the worrying form of the Everton duo while speaking on the All Together Now podcast.

He said: “I’m a little bit concerned about the form of Gordon and Gray, still. We’re trying to create and we’re relying heavily on those two players without really much in [reserve] – obviously, Dwight McNeil can come on – but [we’ve got] not many options in that part of the field creatively.

“I don’t think either of them are still in form. I still think it’s maybe a flicker of this or that in a game, but no consistent deliveries or moments where they’ll provide the killer pass.”

TIF Thoughts on Gray and Gordon…

It’s no surprise that O’Keeffe is concerned by the form of Gray and Gordon as Everton are lacking options in the creativity department, with the only other player able to be called upon is Dwight McNeil as he suggests. However, McNeil himself isn’t the most prolific with just two goals and one assist since the start of last season.

Frank Lampard appears to have acknowledged early on this season that his side weren’t going to be able to compete with many teams offensively, so has instead adopted to focus on the defensive side of his team making them a solid outfit.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

This could be a reason why Everton are yet to be beaten by more than two goals and have only shipped 12 all season. The Toffees have also managed to keep four clean sheets this campaign – the joint-third most in the league – so while defending is the main priority, Lampard would surely love for his offensive players to step up pretty soon.
