Frank Lampard has told the Liverpool Echo that the transfer market is very difficult, it’s not as ‘simplistic’ as going and getting a striker.

It’s been a tough season so far for Lampard and his Everton side, they’re one point above the bottom three and are the fourth lowest scorers in the league with 12 goals.

Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had a number of injury problems throughout his time at Everton. Meanwhile, summer signing Neal Maupay only has one goal in the Premier League this season.

The Everton boss knows that scoring goals is the main issue, but he admits it can be difficult when you’re in the market for a striker.

He stated: “I think we have to react because it’s the Premier League and it’s crucial that we look at us, now. We can see that we haven’t had enough threat at the top end of the pitch in recent weeks. Some of that has to be born in us, me and the players, and whether we can be better.

“We have Dominic. And I know people know that Dominic had his injury problems, and we bring in Neal [Maupay], but the reality is with the transfer market, at the back end of the window, a striker is the hardest position to recruit in because they are very much at a premium. So when the market is difficult in that area of the pitch it’s not as simplistic as to say we could bring in a number nine.”

TIF’s view on Lampard’s comments…

We believe that it will be difficult, but Everton must look to bring in a new striker in January.

Journalist Ben Jacobs claimed in November that the Toffees were looking at Chelsea’s Armando Broja on a possible loan move.

The Albanian only has one goal in the league this season for the Blues. Last season whilst on loan at Southampton, he scored six times. So, based on that goal return, he would not fit the bill, Everton should look elsewhere.

Another report has linked the Toffees to Boulaye Dia of Villarreal. He has eight goal contributions from 14 games fo whilst on loan for Salernitana in Serie A.

It could well be a decent signing based on that return. Whoever they sign, Everton will hope that if they do land a striker, he’ll be a clinical goal scorer.
