Journalist Paul Brown has encouraged Frank Lampard to hand James Garner more of a chance at Everton.

Garner arrived in the summer for £15m, but his game time has been limited so far at Goodison Park.

However, the former Manchester United man has come on as a substitute in each of the side’s last five games.

It comes after the 21-year-old arrived in Merseyside not match-fit and left out of the squad entirely for four of the first six fixtures.

Brown has now admitted that he would like to see more of the midfielder.

He told GiveMeSport: “We’ve seen glimpses of Garner coming on, I’m still not entirely sure what role he’s going to play because we haven’t seen him on the pitch enough, but I would like to see him get a chance to at some point.”

Is Iwobi Everton's best midfielder now?

With fellow summer arrivals Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye thriving in midfield and Alex Iwobi finding a new lease of life further forward, it is hard to see Garner earning a place in the starting XI anytime soon.

Iwobi has notched a team-high five assists so far this season, while Gueye ranks first in the side for interceptions and joint-top for dribbles per 90 minutes (WhoScored).

Onana, meanwhile, places second for tackles per game, further highlighting what the dynamic trio are bringing to the table for the Toffees.

Garner did enjoy success on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, but given the balance Lampard seems to have found in the engine room, it is unlikely the England U21 international breaks into the team this side of the World Cup at least.
