Everton boss Frank Lampard has stated to the Liverpool Echo, that the Toffee’s league standing is a ‘reality check’ of where they are.

Lampard’s side are currently one point off the Premier League’s bottom three. Furthermore, they’ve only netted 12 goals, the fourth least in the league.

However, there are positives to take. Only four teams have conceded fewer goals than Everton, they’ve only let in a total of 17 this season.

The focus is on survival this season, Lampard is fully aware of where the club is at this season. Here’s what he’s said about Everton’s campaign so far, “It’s a reality check of where we are.

“But I think we are in a pretty real position. In terms of what we’re trying to do with the squad, what teams around us are doing and have done with their squads, and in a competitive league, there is no right for us to go from the position we were in at the end of last season – staying up against Crystal Palace – to getting to where we really want to be.

“The process is going to include times where we feel good about ourselves, like we did after Palace and after back-to-back wins against West Ham and Southampton, and then times when we feel not so good about ourselves. I don’t see there being any other pathway than that. And that’s part of the work. And that’s what we have to keep focusing on.”

TIF’s view on Lampard’s comments…

We believe that Everton are in real trouble, but they can easily rectify this. There are still a number of games remaining in the season, it’s all to play for.

The Toffees return to Premier League action with a home clash with Wolves on Boxing Day. A win could be a huge confidence boost and help push them away from the bottom three.

With the January transfer window around the corner, they’ll be looking at potential transfers.

One forward that the Toffees have their eyes on is Viktor Gyokeres of Coventry City. However, the Championship side are looking to offer him a new deal according to one report.

However, it would be a gamble. Whilst Gyokeres has nine Championship goals this season and 17 last season, he’s never played in the Premier League. So, it could be hard for him to adapt.

Everton will need a clinical goal scorer, whoever it is. The decision on who joins could be a make-or-break decision.
