Everton must look into the idea of bringing in a new striker ahead of the January transfer window amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s struggles.

This has been suggested by transfer guru Dean Jones, who has been speaking about the Toffees with GiveMeSport as the winter window looms.

It has been a difficult period for the England striker, with injuries putting a big block on his game time and form in front of goal under Frank Lampard.

The 25-year-old has already missed a huge chunk of the 2022/23 campaign through a knee issue and it is now believed he has suffered a dislocated shoulder, which saw him miss Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Bournemouth.

With the striker struggling massively to find any consistency because of his injury problems, Jones now believes Lampard may be forced to make some moves in the January window.

He said: “Everton are going to have to seriously consider going into the transfer market in January because they need a striker like Calvert-Lewin available to them. If they can’t rely on him, they’re going to have to strengthen.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We agree with Jones, as without Calvert-Lewin’s goals, there will be a lot of responsibility put on the shoulders of Neal Maupay – a player who has not exactly been prolific in the Premier League.

Do Everton need to sign a new striker?

No

Everton have been heavily linked with a potential move for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz, who has made another bright start in the Championship this season.

And with just a matter of months left on his deal, we think this is a player who could certainly be worth a look for the Toffees, with only a cut-price fee potentially needed to secure his services.

Calvert-Lewin has only once scored more than 15 league goals in a season for Everton, so if the opportunity is there for the Toffees in January, we do not think they should hesitate to bring in a potential replacement for the Englishman.
