Everton’s Anthony Gordon has been handed a dismal 4/10 match rating for his showing in the Carabao Cup.

It was a ‘frustrating’ and ‘disappointing’ night for the Toffees on the south coast, according to manager Frank Lampard.

He made 11 changes from Saturday’s defeat as they took on Bournemouth for the first of two meetings with the Cherries this week.

But it was a miserable evening at the Vitality Stadium, as the Toffees suffered a 4-1 defeat.

Gordon was among those coming back into the side, although he was given just a 4/10 for his performance by Liverpool World.

Writer Will Rooney attached the following comment: “Did well in the first half to win the ball that led to Davies’ chance but nowhere near enough on the whole and wasted two decent chances. Then was booked for a petulant tackle born out of frustration. Subbed in the 53rd minute.”

The English forward may well be Lampard’s joint-top scorer this season with three goals, but Tuesday night certainly wasn’t his best outing.

Having already picked up six yellow cards in 11 Premier League starts, that ‘petulant’ side of his game is something he must address.

According to SofaScore, Demarai Gray – who replaced Gordon – managed more touches (33) than the 21-year-old, who made just 24 on the night.

Gordon also completed just 69% of his passes and missed one big chance before being hooked early in the second period.

It is a performance he will want to quickly forget about with attention now turning to a league clash with Bournemouth that the club will need to take something from to avoid taking their poor run of form into the World Cup break.
