Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Christopher Nkunku’s transfer to Chelsea is almost completed.
It had been reported earlier in the year that Nkunku was set to undergo a medical with Chelsea ahead of a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2023, however, after the departure of Thomas Tuchel, that deal may well have been thrown up in the air.
However, that doesn’t appear to be the case, with the Frenchman all but set to sign for Chelsea in advance of his move next year – something that will likely make the Blues a far scarier outfit in attack given his superb record in front of goal since the start of last season.
Having also revealed that Chelsea were set to win the race for the 25-year-old, Romano has also claimed on his YouTube channel what is left to be done before Nkunku can be confirmed as a Blues player.
He said: “The agreement is there between Chelsea and Leipzig, the agreement is there also with the player on the contract side. Now, what is missing?
Will Nkunku be a good signing for Chelsea?
Yes!
No!
“We wait for the contracts to be signed, it is a really important step, especially because [for] Chelsea and [on] the player’s side, we have to wait until the end until they sign the contracts.
“But everything is now verbally agreed so ‘Here We Go’ soon for Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea, we just wait for the contracts to be completed.”
TIF Thoughts on Nkunku to Chelsea…
It appears that Chelsea have managed to steal a march on other top European clubs to land one of the most in-form and exciting attacking talents in the world, as Nkunku has registered 49 goal involvements in the German Bundesliga since the start of last season when he won the Player of the Season award.
While Chelsea are having to fork out a decent amount of money – reportedly more than £52m – it could all be worth it if Nkunku continues to perform at the level he has been for RB Leipzig.
This certainly shows how serious Chelsea’s new owners are about the club and the way they are going to run it, as they will look to be bullish and active in the transfer market, which they also were over the summer in signing Marc Cucurella. Now, getting in early for Nkunku could be their best decision since buying the club.
