Journalist Ben Jacobs has stated on his Twitter account that Chelsea are ‘set for the January window’ when it comes to their recruitment team.

In the summer, American businessman Todd Boehly bought the club for £4.25bn. They brought in a number of signings heading into the 2022/23 season, including Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Chelsea sacked former boss Thomas Tuchel back in October, replacing him with Graham Potter. It’s been a tough season for the Blues, who currently sit in eighth and 17 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

But ahead of the opening of the winter market, Jacobs tweeted that the club have their recruitment team ready for the January transfer window.

He stated: “Chelsea feel their recruitment team is set for the January window. Not all new hires will be in place for it, though. Christopher Vivell incoming as technical director and Paul Winstanley has started with immediate effect. Joe Shields and Laurence Stewart will start later.”

TIF Thoughts on Jacobs’ comments…

We believe that as long as there is good business done in January, Chelsea fans won’t complain.

Goals are what has been lacking for Potter’s side, as only seven teams have scored fewer than them in the Premier League, while their top scorer is currently Sterling with just five.

Fabrizio Romano has stated that Chelsea are ‘closing in’ on a deal for Christopher Nkunku, but his contract won’t start until June next year.

One report has claimed that the Blues have held talks with Brighton & Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard, who has 10 goal contributions from 14 appearances this term.

It’s a signing that would certainly boost their options. However, whether he could make the step up to a Champions League side is yet to be seen.

Something has to change for Chelsea in the second half of the season. Missing out on Champions League football would be a big blow for them and they’ll hope any recruits in the new year can change their current situation.
