Journalist Matt Law has told the London Is Blue podcast that Chelsea will ‘bid big’ to try and land Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

Described as an ‘athletic box-to-box midfielder‘, at only 19 years old, he’s got the potential to be a top player.

Bellingham – hailed a ‘superstar‘ by Steven Gerrard – is currently at the World Cup with England. He netted in their opening match against Iran with a wonderfully headed goal in a 6-2 victory in the Three Lions’ tournament opener.

Law claims that Chelsea are willing to match any bid that comes in for Bellingham and that it’ll come down to more than just money. He stated: “Chelsea will bid big for Bellingham, but they are not favourites to sign him. They will match any bid that is made for Bellingham but the move won’t just come down to money.”

TIF Thoughts on Law’s comments…

We believe that Bellingham would be an excellent signing for Chelsea – he’s so young and has the potential to be a superstar.

He’s a top player with the ball at his feet, as among players in his position over the past year, the teenager is in the top 3% for completed dribbles, as well as ranking in the 6% for progressive passes received and the top 10% for assists (FBref).

However, there’s other top clubs that are sniffing around Bellingham. Those clubs, according to Fabrizio Romano, include Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Merseyside could well be a likely destination for the midfielder, as he listed former Reds captain Steven Gerrard as one of his heroes and may look to emulate his success at Anfield.

Should Chelsea miss out on European football, it could be hard to convince Bellingham. Where they’re sat in the league at present, it could be a real possibility, so they’ll need to do all they can to make sure that is not the case.
