ITV commentator and presenter Sam Matterface has slammed Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz for failing to deal with the corner that led to the side conceding on Sunday.
Graham Potter’s side fell to back-to-back defeats and dropped to seventh in the Premier League table.
Following a 4-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal walked away with all three points from Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
Bukayo Saka’s corner evaded a raft of home players, including Havertz, with Gunners defender Gabriel eventually getting on the end of the cross at the back post.
Speaking on the TalkSport GameDay podcast, Matterface said: “They spent a hell of a lot of money on some good players that can’t even defend a near-post corner.
“I mean, Kai Havertz was worth nearly £80m, but when a ball comes in towards that near post and he just wafts a left foot at it, what can you do? What can you do?
“I mean, how he wasn’t dragged off the minute that happened, I’ll never know.
“Yeah, he was dragged off literally seconds after that happened. Good, because he deserved to be.”
TIF Thoughts on Havertz and Chelsea…
Should Chelsea sell Havertz this summer?
Yes, it hasn't worked out!
Havertz has started all but two of Chelsea’s league fixtures so far this season, scoring three goals.
However, his 6.77 average match rating in the Premier League (SofaScore) only ranks 12th among his teammates at the club this term, and his form has certainly dipped.
Only Christian Pulisic, Saul Niguez and Timo Werner recorded a lower average match rating in the top flight last season than the German, and he struggled once again on Sunday.
The 23-year-old lost possession 13 times and completed just 65% of his passes on the day. He was also branded ‘lazy‘ for his attempts to clear the corner that led to Arsenal’s winner by BT Sport pundit Martin Keown.
With Bayern Munich thought to be interested in the former Bayer Leverkusen playmaker, he could opt to return to the Bundesliga, but it remains to be seen whether he can rekindle his career at the Bridge.
