Aston Villa: Arrival of Unai Emery shows Pau Torres the club is ‘ambitious’

|

The arrival of Unai Emery at Aston Villa shows potential target, Pau Torres that they have high ambitions.

That’s according to journalist Peter O’Rourke who spoke to This Is Futbol about a potential move for the defender to the Midlands.

Reports state that Villa are plotting a move for the Villarreal centre-back. Emery managed Torres before he left the Spanish side to join Aston Villa. A potential reunion could be on the cards in January.

In his first game in charge, Villa defeated Manchester United 3-1 last weekend. However, the two met in the Carabao Cup on Thursday and The Red Devils would get their revenge with a 4-2 victory at Old Trafford.

However, O’Rourke believes that the appointment of Emery to Villa will show Pau Torres that they mean business.

“Maybe it means Pau Torres will sit up and take notice that Aston Villa are an ambitious club because I’m sure they’ve sold the ambition to Unai Emery of what they want to achieve.”

TIF’s view on O’Rourke’s comments

We believe that the appointment of Unai Emery is a big statement by Aston Villa. He’s a manager with European pedigree, his CV speaks for itself.

Additionally, Pau Torres, who was hailed as a ‘top’ player by Emery, has worked with the Villa boss very recently. They even won the Europa League together in the 2020/21 season, beating Manchester United on penalties.

So the arrival of Emery could really appeal to the 25-year-old. He’s never played in the Premier League before and he could do it alongside a manager he knows well.

Furthermore, it would boost Aston Villa’s defensive options. Bringing in someone he’s managed before will make it easier for him to implement his style on the club’s defence.

It could also help attract other players to the club, not just Torres. Bringing in a well-respected manager definitely adds credibility to a big club such as Villa.
