Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchencko may be closing in on a return following the emergence of fresh footage London Colney.

The Gunners have been without the versatile Ukrainian since their 3-1 north London derby victory over a month ago.

Having already been kept out through injury the 25-year-old sustained another calf problem and has missed the last eight matches.

However, he could be in line to feature before the mid-season break after being spotted training on Wednesday afternoon.

Prior to Sunday’s mauling of Nottingham Forest, each of the Gunners’ three previous wins had come by a 1-0 scoreline.

They were beginning to show signs of a team that was fatigued after drawing with struggling Southampton and losing to PSV Eindhoven in Europe.

While Mikel Arteta’s side seemed to put those doubts to bed last weekend, they have nonetheless potentially been handed a major boost with Zinchenko’s recovery.

Of the five games he has been available for, the 52-cap ace has started every time, suggesting his importance to Arteta’s plans.

Dubbed a ‘very good asset’ by journalist Josh Bunting, the £32m summer arrival recorded an assist on debut against Crystal Palace, and albeit over a smaller sample size, is the club’s top-performing defender with a 6.94 average match rating according to WhoScored.

While the fixture with Zurich on Thursday night may come too soon, having Zinchenko available for the crunch match with Chelsea this Sunday would be a tremendous option for the Arsenal boss.
