Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal are still interested in signing winger Mykhaylo Mudryk this winter.

Whilst the Gunners are leading the Premier League, they might need some January transfer signings if they want to stay there beyond the new year.

Indeed, there has been plenty of talk about Arsenal adding some quality and depth to their squad by signing a new winger, with Mudryk linked in the past.

According to Romano, Mikel Arteta had an interest in the player over the summer, and while that deal wasn’t completed, plenty of interest still remains.

He explained as much while talking on his YouTube channel, saying: “They had very positive contacts on Mudryk’s side, on the player’s side, but then they decided not to proceed with Shakhtar because they wanted more than £40-45m.

“Now, Shakhtar want more than £60-65m, I’m told – more than this for Mykhaylo Mudryk, so it’s not going to be an easy one. But Arsenal are still following the player.

“They consider Mudryk a top talent and so Arsenal are still there. Let’s see, because now the race is open with many clubs involved.”

TIF Thoughts on Mykhaylo Mudryk and Arsenal…

On the flanks for Arsenal in the league up to this point, Gabriel Martinelli has started every game as a left-winger, while Bukayo Saka has started every match on the other side.

With that in mind, it’s clear that the Gunners have a heavy reliance on those two and could be in big trouble if either man was to pick up an injury for any length of time.

And so, Mudryk could be a perfect solution for the club. The 21-year-old has been in fine form this term, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists in 14 games for Shakhtar Donetsk in all competitions.

However, his transfer fee could prove prohibitive, as Romano makes clear, so it will be interesting to see how Arsenal approach any potential deal this winter.
