AFTV’s Robbie Lyle has stated that he believes Arsenal-linked Christian Pulisic would be ‘better’ under Mikel Arteta than he is at his current club.
The Daily Mail has previously reported that the Gunners are among a number of Premier League clubs interested in the American.
Pulisic’s Chelsea deal runs out in the summer of 2024, so perhaps the club will look to let him leave soon if they don’t have him in their future plans.
The 24-year-old is at the World Cup with the USMNT. Behind Gunners goalkeeper Matt Turner, Pulisic was among his nation’s highest-rated players for his performance against England (as per Sofascore) – and Lyle believes he could see him replicating his promising displays with a switch to north London.
He said: “When you look at the way he plays – a player who picks the ball up and likes to run at players, dribble at players, take players on – it might not be a bad shout to bring a player like him in.
“I think he’s one of those players where he could, under a Mikel Arteta, be a better player than he is at Chelsea.”
TIF Thoughts on Lyle’s comments…
We believe that Pulisic would be a good signing for a number of clubs. However, Arsenal wouldn’t necessarily be the best move for him.
The Gunners have a number of wingers already at their disposal, so it’s not an area that is in urgent need of a fresh face.
When compared to other forwards, Pulisic is in the top 10% for dribbles completed, suggesting he’s a total nuisance for any defender.
We’re sure a number of clubs would like to sign Pulisic as he’s caught the eye at the World Cup so far. That’ll certainly have helped raise his profile, no doubt – but we can’t see Chelsea selling such a promising talent to a direct rival should they wish to move the American on.
