Brazil legend Kaka has criticised Neymar after Brazil’s victory over Serbia in their World Cup opener.

The former AC Milan and Real Madrid superstar laid into the Paris Saint-Germain star after a sub-par display, claiming that the 30-year-old failed to shine before departing the pitch with injury.

However, the Ballon D’or winner also stated that he hopes Neymar will be fit for the rest of the tournament and emphasised his importance to Brazil’s chances.

“I hope he can recover for the next game and be ready. This tournament is the one that gives him a platform to shine – and against Serbia he certainly didn’t shine before he was injured,” Kaka stated.

“The one positive is that when he went off the pitch, Brazil played a very good game. It didn’t look like a serious injury at first. But what worries me is that Neymar always wants to play even when he is hurt.

“This time he didn’t. He wanted to come off. For me, that is very strange and it could be a problem for Brazil for the rest of the tournament.”

TIF thoughts on Neymar…

The former Barcelona star did not have his best game against Serbia, as he failed to complete a single dribble, and was dispossessed 25 times as per SofaScore.

His injury means that he will be kept out the next two games, against Switzerland and Cameroon, but Brazil’s win means that they are in a good position to qualify for the knockouts.

Neymar is just two goals away from equaling Pele’s all-time record for Brazil goals, and should he surpass the footballing legend en route to World Cup victory, he will cement his place in football history, but he will need to up his game if he is to do so.
