According to journalist Kerry Hau on Podcast Die Bayern-Woche (via the Twitter account Bayern & Germany), both Bayern Munich and Lucas Hernandez want to extend their future together.

The club will reportedly sit down with the player and his agent after the World Cup to discuss a new deal. Hernandez is currently away with the French national team, who start their campaign against Australia on Tuesday.

Hernandez has made seven appearances for the German side in the Bundesliga this season. He likely would’ve made more had he not picked up an injury in mid-September, he didn’t return until the end of October.

Bayern Munich paid £68 million for Hernandez back in 2019, when they signed him from Atletico Madrid. His only issue since arriving in Germany is his injury problems. The 26-year-old has suffered a number of injuries whilst playing for Bayern.

TIF’s view on a potential new deal for Lucas Hernandez…

We believe that this is a deal which would benefit both parties with Hernandez already having won a whopping nine trophies since he joined them.

Furthermore, the defender has shown his quality in the German top-flght. The fact he’s been called up for France says it all, they’re a team filled with quality from top to bottom.

In addition, it appears that the player, his agent and Bayern are all on the same page. Suggesting the negotiations over a new deal should be smooth sailing for all parties.

A new deal with Bayern will likely mean more trophies for Hernandez. He’s still got plenty of time left in his career, at 26-years-old. By the time he retires, he could be up there as one of the most accomplished defenders when it comes to trophies.
