Tottenham Hotspur right wing-back Matt Doherty has been criticised for his showing in the 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday night.

Football.london journalist Rob Guest has slammed the 30-year-old Irishman in his post-game player ratings as Spurs had to settle for a share of the points.

It was a dramatic night in north London with a late disallowed goal saw Spurs thinking they had secured not only all three points but a spot in the knockout stages of the competition.

Doherty was not on the pitch when Harry Kane thought he’d won the game with Antonio Conte substituting the 30-year-old in the 71st minute.

The Irishman has now made a full return to the starting XI following his long-term injury but Guest made it apparent this was not a night to remember for the wing-back:

“Got the nod at right wing-back in place of Emerson Royal but did very little of note in his time on the pitch. Went close with a low effort seconds before he made way,” Guest wrote as he awarded Doherty a 5/10 rating.

TIF Thoughts on Guest’s comments…

It was definitely a quiet performance from Doherty who did not offer the Lilywhites much going down the right side with just one attempted cross – which didn’t find a Spurs man (via SofaScore).

Who should start at RWB?

There was a real lack of influence from the Irishman who only touched the ball 45 times during the 71 minutes in which he lost possession on nine occasions.

With Doherty and Emerson Royal being able to provide just one assist between them so far this season, it does make us wonder what Djed Spence has to do under Conte to be given an opportunity.
