Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will potentially bring in Ryan Sessegnon on Sunday to replace Ivan Perisic at left wing-back.

This has been suggested by the reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold who has been speaking on his latest YouTube video following their dismal display at Old Trafford.

It really was a disappointing night in the north for the Lilywhites with the 2-0 scoreline not telling the true story of the game with Hugo Lloris preventing it from being a truly embarrassing night for Conte’s men.

And Perisic was a player who did not escape criticism on the night with Gold handing the experienced Croatian being hit with a mere 5/10 rating for his efforts on the left.

Perisic almost lasted the full 90 minutes but was replaced with just minutes to go but Gold believes there is a good chance the 33-year-old could be watching from the dugout against Newcastle United:

(38:00) “I felt Sess was unfortunate not to start, to be honest. I said this before that every time Conte has a big match pretty much he’s played Sessegnon. And Sessegnon has repaid him with good performances.”

“I did feel for Sessegnon. I think that was a little bit tough on him to take that and I’d imagine he comes in against Newcastle but with Perisic, it’s not there yet for him.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We are not surprised with Gold’s comments on the back of Wednesday night’s display. By no means was Perisic the worst player for Spurs at Old Trafford, however, he certainly didn’t show much to warrant a spot in the XI on Sunday.

Who should start on Sunday?

The experienced Croatian arrived at Spurs on the back of a seriously impressive campaign for Inter Milan and we do not think he has shown much of that form since landing in England.

His set pieces were a real cause for optimism in the early stages of the season, however, that aside, we have been a little underwhelmed by the wing-back.

Sessegnon is yet to record an assist this season for Spurs but with a goal to his name, we think he deserves the nod on Sunday ahead of Perisic who – in turn – may benefit from being rested amid the hectic pre-World Cup schedule.
