Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton is now a potential doubt for the weekend’s trip to north London having limped off on Wednesday night.

This is according to the reliable Toon correspondent Lee Ryder who has been speaking on his YouTube channel following Eddie Howe’s pre-game press conference.

Howe’s side added another important three points on Wednesday to their impressive start to the 2022/23 campaign which has them sitting pretty in sixth spot of the table.

However, there was one slight blow coming out of the game against Everton at St. James’ Park and that was the injury concern hanging over Joelinton.

The Brazilian was taken off at half time having taken a knock to the knee which Ryder has claimed Howe believes will become a late decision as to whether he can play against Antonio Conte’s Spurs:

“Injury-wise, Joelinton, we expect a late call on him. Eddie Howe said it was unclear whether he would be involved. He came off at half-time against Everton the other night, didn’t he? They’re taking a precaution on that one.”

TIF Thoughts on Ryder’s comments…

This could be yet another blow in what has been a dreadful start to the season for Newcastle when it comes to the injuries sustained to some of their best players.

Is it worth risking Joelinton on Sunday?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Newcastle were beaten heavily last season by Spurs in N17 and they will be going into the game on Sunday already without Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak.

So to now potentially have Joelinton out is yet another issue, especially when Jonjo Shelvey is yet to make a return to on-field action having only made the bench in the last two appearances.
