Rangers and Zambia winger Fashion Sakala’s spot at right-wing is “his shirt to lose” at the moment.

That is according to journalist Derek Clark, who was speaking on Thursday morning’s Rangers Review briefing, following the side’s 3-0 Champions League defeat at Napoli.

Sakala has struggled to nail down a regular spot in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side this season, making just ten appearances and providing both one goal and one assist, according to Transfermarkt.

The 25-year-old replaced Scott Wright for the second-half of Wednesday’s visit to Napoli, which could potentially be a hint that the Dutch manager is preparing him for the visit of Aberdeen on Saturday.

And Clark believes that whilst Sakala’s final product often lets him down, there’s a good chance that the right-wing spot is now his to lose.

Sakala, I think probably at this moment in time is Rangers’ best option out there,” Clark told Rangers Review (22:20).

“He had a chance near the end of the game where he had a positive run forward, beat his man.

“But then as we know his final product often lets him down.

“He just fluffed his lines when he was in the penalty area. But at the moment, I think it’s his shirt to lose.

TIF Thoughts on Clark’s comments…

We agree with Clark and believe that now could be the time to give Sakala a run in the side, with the 19-time Zambia international generally impressing when given the opportunity to perform.

The wide man has earned himself an impressive average SofaScore rating of 7.05 for his performances in the Premiership this season, whilst an average of 6.80 rates him as the highest ranked player in the club’s Champions League campaign this season.

Therefore, we think that there is no reason for van Bronckhorst to not provide Sakala with the opportunity of a regular run of games at Ibrox, to showcase what talents he can bring to the side.
