Frank McAvennie believes that Ryan Jack will extend his contract at Rangers.

The midfielder sees his current deal expire at the end of the season and isn’t concentrating on agreeing to fresh terms at this present time.

As quoted by Glasgow Live the 30-year-old said at the start of the month that “right now it’s just about focusing on getting a good run in the team, putting a good run together and consistently playing well.”

However, Jack has since suffered an injury that is likely to rule him out until the new year.

Given his fitness struggles in the past McAvennie has now urged the Gers to tie down the £3.6m-rated ace.

He told Football Insider:

“I think he is a good player when he is fit.

“I think he will stay. I do not think anyone would want to sign him. He will want a sign-on fee, he will want bigger money.

“If they sell him, I do not think they will get much money for him. He has been injured quite a lot. Unless you have played consistently without any injuries you are not going to get any money.

“He will not get any anyway because his contract is almost up.“

Jack has started eight times for Giovanni van Bronckhorst this season but the only recognised central midfielder that he has played more than at the club is Glen Kamara.

John Lundstram, Scott Arfield and Steven Davis have all tended to be preferred to the Scotland international.

Football Insider have claimed that the Bears are willing to cash in on Kamara come January and while they likely won’t garner much of a fee for Jack, the club could look to give their engine room a much-needed shake-up this winter.

Bringing in a dynamic midfielder to cope with the potential loss of their out-of-contract maestro may well be on the agenda and would be advised given the precarious situation they find themselves in with the 13-cap Scot.
