Journalist Ben Banks has slammed Celtic defender Alexandro Bernabei for his difficult display in the club’s most recent league game.

There was more than enough drama for one week, let alone just one game, in the Scottish Premiership this weekend when the Bhoys took on Hearts of Midlothian.

Indeed, the thrilling match – which had VAR in use for the first time – ended up finishing in a 4-3 win to Celtic despite a hat-trick from opposition player Lawrence Shankland.

Greg Taylor managed to steal the winner late on, having actually come on for Bernabei in the 66th minute and it seems as though the Argentine didn’t have the best day at the office.

Indeed, Banks certainly felt that way as he made his feelings known in the player ratings for Glasgow Live, handing the left-back a 5/10 for his efforts.

He also wrote: “Josh Ginnelly gave him a tough time. Has been impressive when used recently but found it a bit tougher today as he steps up his Hoops involvement.”

TIF thoughts on Alexandro Bernabei and Celtic…

The simple fact that Celtic let in three goals does enough to suggest that anyone in the backline didn’t exactly have the best performance of their career, but it looks as if Bernabei, in particular, stuck out for all the wrong reasons.

Indeed, when viewing the stats recorded on SofaScore, his 6.0 rating was the lowest amongst all his teammates. On top of that, he lost the ball 14 times, had a passing accuracy of just 79 per cent, and won just 2/4 duels in 66 minutes before he was subbed for the match-winner.

Evidently, his performance didn’t exactly set the world on fire, and with Banks noting he struggled against Josh Ginnelly – who managed to pick up an assist – it’s fair to say this was a bit of a day to forget for the 22-year-old.
