Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph has praised Greg Taylor for his performance for Celtic in their latest Champions League outing.

The Hoops’ campaign in Europe ended as Ange Postecoglou’s side were held to a 1-1 draw at Parkhead on Wednesday night.

A win was required to salvage any slim chance the Hoops had of remaining in Europe, but they are now guaranteed to finish bottom of Group F regardless of their result against Real Madrid on the final matchday.

As Joseph pointed out, it was another disappointing result for the Bhoys with two big chances missed, but the journalist was mightily impressed by Taylor.

Taking to Twitter after the game, he posted: “Yet another frustrating night in the UCL for Celtic. Overall performance was good, but lessons need to be learned from this campaign. O’Riley & Hatate were below par tonight – neither seemed to have the same drive about them. Greg Taylor was outstanding yet again, though.”

The 24-year-old proved to be the match-winner as the Celts took all three points at Tynecastle against Hearts on Saturday.

He has played every minute of the club’s European campaign thus far, and of those to have started all five games, only Matt O’Riley and Josip Juranovic have averaged higher than his 6.53/10 match rating (as per WhoScored).

On Wednesday, the left-back had 81 touches, completed 90% of his attempted passes and led the game in both tackles and duels won – being successful in 10/13 of the latter, according to SofaScore.

He certainly didn’t let himself down on the big stage and was rightly lauded by Joseph as the Scotsman has upped his game since the summer arrival of Alexandro Bernabei.
