Journalist Ryan Thom singled out Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart’s ‘sloppy’ performance in what was an otherwise routine victory for Ange Postecoglou’s Bhoys.

The Hoops No 1 was a bystander in the first half as Celtic roared into a 3-0 lead in a dazzling first half at Parkhead, with the league leaders scoring another three in the second to record a 6-1 drubbing against Hibernian.

Despite the one-sided scoreline, Hart came in for criticism as Thom compiled his player ratings for GlasgowLive, with the shot-stopper being awarded a 5/10 for his display – a team-low out of the players who started the game.

He was arguably at fault for Hibs’ consolation early in the second period as he was beaten at his near post, before almost handing the visitors a lifeline soon after, when his poor goal kick nearly led to Josh Campbell lobbing Hart and pulling another goal back for Lee Johnson’s side.

Writing after the game, Thom said: “Very little to do as Celtic dominated the ball and created chances. Safe hands when called upon. Almost gifted Hibs a second through a sloppy pass out, and was fortunate not to go in the book.”

TIF Thoughts on Joe Hart’s performance…

Hart will surely be as disappointed as anyone not to keep a clean sheet, particularly in such a dominant display from the champions. As noted by Thom, the goalkeeper wasn’t exactly busy in the opening stages and you may have expected a player of Hart’s experience to be more alert when eventually called upon.

While he evidently showed his class during the second half, there were nevertheless moments which tainted his overall performance.

There may be no harm done with Celtic in imperious form in front of goal, but there will only be so many chances Hart can take before he starts costing the team points.

As a result, Celtic and Hart will be hoping this is not something that becomes a regular occurrence.
