Celtic journalist Ryan McGinlay has backed Greg Taylor to be their next club captain following some recent footage to emerge of the defender.

Current skipper Callum McGregor was forced off in the first half of the Hoops’ trip to RB Leipzig last week.

It was subsequently revealed that the midfielder could be out of action until after the World Cup, but that he won’t require surgery as first feared.

In his absence on Tuesday night for the return fixture with Leipzig, Cameron Carter-Vickers was named captain, but it appears that Taylor may have been the one doing the talking in the patented Celtic huddle.

McGinlay certainly seems to approve of the idea of Taylor having the armband, and after retweeting the video, he wrote: “Been convinced for months now that he’ll be our next captain.”

TIF Thoughts on Greg Taylor and Celtic…

Would you like to see Taylor as captain after McGregor?

Yes

Yes

No!

No!

Taylor was brought to the club back in 2019 by Neil Lennon following Kieran Tierney’s departure to Arsenal. He signed an improved deal last season which will keep him at the club until 2025.

The left-back has gone on to make 96 appearances for the Bhoys, becoming the first-choice left-back under Ange Postecoglou.

He certainly leads on the pitch as well, as according to WhoScored, he has been the Celts’ third-best performer in the Scottish Premiership this term, with an average match rating of 7.37, only behind Jota and Carl Starfelt.

The Scottish international also leads his teammates for dribbles and tackles per 90 minutes, but whether he skippers the side one day remains to be seen.
