Celtic centre-back Moritz Jenz has come in for criticism following his performance in the club’s latest Champions League outing.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were beaten in Germany on Wednesday night as they lost 3-1 on matchday three by RB Leipzig.

Jenz played all 90 minutes, but like his teammates, struggled for large parts to deal with the attacking threat the Bundesliga side posed.

It wasn’t a return to his home country that the on-loan defender was hoping for, as he was called out for his performance.

Writing for Glasgow Live, Ben Banks awarded the 23-year-old with a 5/10 match rating and attached the following comment: “Looked a bit shaky at times on his return to Germany and his passing at times from the back was a bit wayward. A learning curve for the developing centre-back.”

A Fulham academy graduate, Jenz only made his Champions League debut this season and has played every minute of the campaign.

However, it certainly has been a ‘learning curve’ for the club as they compete against Europe’s finest.

Last night, the Lorient-owned colossus ranked fourth for touches among his teammates, while completing 50 of his 57 passes

He did, however, lose possession nine times, as Banks alluded to and was put under considerable pressure, having to make three clearances, two blocks, one interception and one tackle.

Ahead of next week’s return fixture, Jenz will be hoping to rebuild his confidence as Celtic head to St Johnstone on Saturday afternoon.
