Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has expressed his concern for Wolves and doesn’t know how they are going to pick up points.

The Wanderers have now slipped to 19th in the Premier League table following a 4-0 drubbing in their own backyard.

Steve Davis’ side picked up just their second win of the season a fortnight ago at home to Nottingham Forest but back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace and Leicester City have left the Old Gold slumped around the bottom of the table.

It’s now five losses in their last six games for the Midlanders and Merson has issued a damning verdict. Writing in his Sportskeeda column Merson backed Brentford to beat Wolves 2-0 as he said:

“I don’t know how Wolves are going to win a match. They can’t score goals, and they can’t keep clean sheets either. It’s a worrying time for Wolves at the moment.”

TIF Thoughts on Merson’s comments…

Will Wolves be relegated?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Since their promotion to the Premier League back in 2018, the Molineux outfit have never been big-hitters but the past couple of seasons have seen a decline in their attacking output.

After 47 and 51 goals in their first two campaigns back at the top level, they managed just 36 and 38 in the most recent seasons.

However, as Merson pointed out their usually mean defence hasn’t been there this term.

They had kept 43 clean sheets in four years prior to the start of the current season but they have managed just one in their last six matches.

Coupling that with a toothless attack that has scored a league-low five goals in 12 games, which won’t inspire the Molineux faithful.

With no manager found to replace Bruno Lage and Davis remaining in caretaker charge to the new year, whoever comes in will have a tough job on their hands and one that’s too much to come back from if they can’t turn things around before the World Cup.
