Journalist Dean Jones has been left baffled by Wolves’ decision to allow Conor Coady to leave in the summer.

The former Molineux captain joined Everton on a season-long loan after finding himself out of the side under Bruno Lage.

Alongside James Tarkowski, he has formed one of the league’s meanest defences, with just 12 goals conceded.

His parent club, meanwhile, are in peril, with Lage sacked after a dismal start to the season.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Dean Jones has been left scratching his head at some of the business the West Midlanders carried out in the latest window.

He said: “I think if you look at decisions like Conor Coady, for example, that feels like a massive mistake.

Should Wolves regret letting Coady leave?

No, the problem is in attack!

Yes, what were they thinking!

Yes, what were they thinking!

“It was confusing as to why they never actually signed a long-term proper striker before turning to Diego Costa and they hit the panic button on that one.

“It all feels like a bit of a mess.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Test your knowledge on Wolves' managerial candidates! First up: in what year did Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui almost take the Wolves hotseat?

We can see why Jones remains confused as to what Wolves’ strategy was in the summer transfer window.

This was a team already low on senior defenders before the summer departures of Romain Saiss and Willy Boly. They may have brought in Nathan Collins, but the Old Gold went into the campaign with even fewer centre-backs.

Granted, they have changed formation this term, but to also lose their captain amid the side’s terrible run of form either side of the summer break, one wonders how the Wolves hierarchy thought this would work out.
